The Position

The Federal Affairs Intern contributes to ACP’s federal advocacy efforts by supporting research, policy tracking, and legislative monitoring related to the clean power industry. This role provides exposure to how federal policy, legislation, and stakeholder engagement shape clean energy advocacy and industry priorities. 

Working closely with the Federal Affairs team, the intern will contribute to monitoring congressional activity, tracking policy developments, and supporting coordination with external partners, gaining insight into how federal advocacy work is conducted within a trade association environment. 

Responsibilities

  • Monitor clean energy news, federal legislation, hearings, and regulatory developments relevant to ACP’s advocacy priorities. 
  • Track congressional hearings, markups, and amendments and summarize key developments for internal use. 
  • Help maintain legislative trackers and contribute content for the Federal Affairs Newsletter. 
  • Monitor activity across relevant congressional committees and flag developments for the Federal Affairs team. 
  • Participate in tracking engagement with other energy trade associations, non-governmental organizations, and advocacy coalitions. 
  • Attend relevant hearings on Capitol Hill to observe proceedings and support legislative tracking. 
  • Contribute to research and policy analysis related to clean power advocacy initiatives. 
  • Support additional projects and tasks as needed to meet team priorities. 

Requirements

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student, or recent graduate, with an interest in public policy, political science, energy, or a related field. 
  • Strong interest in clean energy and federal policy. 
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. 
  • Comfort using spreadsheet and presentation software, including Excel and PowerPoint. 

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework or experience related to public policy, advocacy, or government affairs. 
  • Interest in legislative research, political analysis, or regulatory issues.
