The Position

The Future of Land and Housing (FLH) Program at New America seeks qualified applicants with a strong interest in U.S. housing, land, and property rights for our paid summer internship. This role is an excellent stepping stone and a fantastic opportunity to gain a broad range of experience relevant to working in the fields of housing and land use in a supportive, creative, and collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the FLH team with quantitative or qualitative research, analysis and convening in housing policy areas
  • Produce blog posts, articles, and written communication products on housing, land, and property rights
  • Attend meetings and conferences that contribute to the development of FLH’s areas of interest
  • Provide support for events and presentations
  • General administrative duties as needed
  • Ability to work full-time (40 hours a week) remotely

Requirements

  • Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated experience in public policy, with housing or land use policy preferred
  • Experience in communications is a plus
  • Intellectual curiosity, motivation, and a desire to learn on the job
  • Self-starter who can work quickly and multi-task
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational skills and time management
  • Ability to work independently and part of a team
  • Commitment to racial equity in housing and land use
  • A recent or current graduate student with a major relevant to FLH, including, but not limited to, Public Policy, Urban Planning, Sociology, or a related field.
